Boasting the Cross: Do we love the Lord enough to boast only the cross? - 11th day in Lent

*Who died on the Cross?
           Jesus Christ died on the Cross.
*Why did He die on the Cross? He died on the cross to redeem the world from sin and give eternal life to all who believe on Him. Genesis 17:2  The Lord said to Abram, “I am God Almighty.”  Genesis 1:1 ‘In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.’ John 1:10 ‘He was in the world, and the world was made by Him…’ Rev 13:8‘…before the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb who was slain.’  Rev 1:8 “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.” The Lord created the man in His own image. When the Lord found Adam alone, He made a helper fit for him called Eve. The Lord asked them to enjoy all in the Garden of Eden except not to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Then came the serpent, the satan, that was craftier than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made.

This passage is cited to prove that Satan is a fallen angel. "Thus we believe Satan to be but a created being, though of the highest rank. He was once called the ‘anointed guardian cherub' (Ezek. 28:14). He was described as 'full of wisdom and perfect in beauty' (verse 12). He was the embodiment of created perfection, and apparently led the worship of the universe. He was in the 'mountain of God,' where God manifests His glory, and was 'perfect' in his ways until 'iniquity' developed in him (verses 14, 15). His heart became lifted up because of his beauty and his wisdom and corrupted because of his brightness (verse 17). Unholy ambition and jealousy ruined him, and he led a host of angels in rebellion against God and Christ (Rev. 12:7-9). As a result he was 'cast' out of the mountain of God (Ezek. 28:16), and down to the 'ground', or earth (verse 17; Isa. 14:12).

Gen 3:6 Eve saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes. Satan talked with Eve, and made her sin by eating the fruit which was forbidden.  She after eating the fruit gave it to Adam to eat. Thus they lost the glory that the Lord gave them. James 1:15 ‘Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, when it is fully grown brings forth death.’ Desire means lust. I John 2:15, 16 ‘Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world – the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions -is not from the Father but is from the world.’

Adam and Eve did three types of sin. 1. Disobedience, 2. Hiding their sins. Pro28:13 ‘Who ever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes the will obtain mercy.’ 3. Did not admit their sins. They tried to blame others for their sins. This made them to leave the Garden of Eden. They wanted to cover themselves with just leaves (fig) which dried every day and made to expose themselves. But God in His great love made them garments of skins and clothed them (Gen 3:21)

The Lord has given us the garment of Salvation and also the garment of righteousness. I Cor 15:57 ‘Thanks be to God who gives us victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.’ There was a curse given in the Garden of Eden. Gen 3:15 ‘I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head and you shall bruise his heel.’ It can be done only in the Cross. Let 17:11 ‘For the life of the flesh is in the blood.’ Animal blood was shed every time for cleansing in those days. But Jesus shedding his blood on the Cross made a permanent atonement for sin. God sent His one and only Son to redeem the world.

Matthew 1:21 ‘She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.’ Ephesians 5:2 ‘And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.’ I John 2:2 ‘He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.’ I John 4:10 ‘In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.’ I John 4:8 ‘God is love.’ He showed the love on the Cross to save the world. What are we doing for that great love? Are we boasting on the Cross of Jesus? Let us search our hearts, to love and live for Him alone in this world.

Memory Verse:

எபேசியர் 3:18, 19
சகல பரிசுத்தவான்களோடுங்கூடக் கிறிஸ்துவினுடைய அன்பின் அகலமும், நீளமும், ஆழமும், உயரமும் இன்னதென்று உணர்ந்து;

May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height;
And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.
